Longtime readers will remember a series we did on Using AI to Create Software last summer.
That series stalled because well, the AI software did.
But a lot has changed since then.
Now the AI tools are more powerful. Building applications is getting easier.
They are getting more powerful, too.
Since the first GPT moment I’ve wanted a life copilot to hold my goals, track my habits and tasks, hold my journal entries and steer me toward victory.
So I built Orion, the first AI Life Copilot. You can read about the early efforts here:
Building Orion
Consistency sets people apart.
I wanted an app to help me track my goals vs where I am. A place to store my habits & tasks to make sure I actually complete them, again, consistently. A location to hold me accountable but also to centralize my thoughts with morning (and evening) journaling. More on the journals in a sec.
I am also a big stats geek + gamification junkie who loves getting high scores and performing above average on… well, everything. I built Orion to gamify the habits and mentalities that lead to success.
So, Orion tracks completion of habits (purple), tasks (green) and your twice daily journal entry (yellow). You want to consistently execute at a high level - now you can see if you are:
The journal serves a couple purposes. It incentivizes you to write your day's plan, and then debrief at the end -- earning 3 points for every entry.
You can click dates in the journal history component and read historic entries. I often scan through the last couple of weeks' entries in the AM when I am planning my to-do list for the day... a very effective technique to jump-start your creative and executive juices.
We also have several AI features where it actually make sense to use AI:
generating planning advice on goals → creates habits and tasks
generate AI advice → see below for special breakdown
speak with the council → a group of advisors in various life areas
Each advisor focuses on a different area of life… they look through a different lens and they speak very differently.
Watch out for Mr. Tough Love.
You may recognize his voice.
Generate advice is my favorite feature of Orion.
When you click this lovely purple button it packages up your last 14-days worth of journal entries into a JSON file and sends them to Gemini AI along with this other context:
your tasks
your habits
whether you are completing your habits
what your other journal entries say
Then you get advice tailored to help optimize your goal acquisition.
Orion launches on March 21st!

Thank you for helping us accelerate Life in the Singularity by sharing.
I started Life in the Singularity in May 2023 to track all the accelerating changes in AI/ML, robotics, quantum computing and the rest of the technologies accelerating humanity forward into the future. I’m an investor in over a dozen technology companies and I needed a canvas to unfold and examine all the acceleration and breakthroughs across science and technology.
Our brilliant audience includes engineers and executives, incredible technologists, tons of investors, Fortune-500 board members and thousands of people who want to use technology to maximize the utility in their lives.
To help us continue our growth, would you please engage with this post and share us far and wide?! 🙏
